Who the Basic report is for

You have found a used car, truck or SUV and you are days away from paying for it. Before you do, you need to know the three things that turn a good deal into an expensive mistake: has the vehicle been written off, has the mileage been wound back, and has it carried a salvage, flood or lemon brand in any state or province.

The Basic report answers exactly those questions for any VIN registered in the United States or Canada, and it puts the answer in plain English on the first page.

What we search

We run the 17-digit VIN you submit across insurance records, state and provincial title and registration files, total-loss and junk databases, and the manufacturer's open-recall list. Anything reported against the VIN comes back on a dated timeline so you can see the vehicle's story in order.

How to read the result

  • Clean title, consistent odometer, no accidents reported — a good starting point. Book the inspection.
  • Accidents reported but title still clean — worth pursuing, but ask the seller for repair invoices, and consider the Silver report for the damage detail.
  • Salvage, junk, rebuilt or flood brand — the vehicle can still be worth buying, but never at clean-title money. Expect resale and insurance problems.
  • Odometer rollback flagged — walk away, and report it.

Delivery

Orders are processed around the clock. Your report arrives by email as a PDF you can forward to your mechanic, your bank or the seller. There is no account to create and nothing that renews.

Honest limits

A history report shows what has been reported about a vehicle. Damage repaired privately and never claimed will not appear in any provider's records — ours or anyone else's. Use this report to decide whether a car is worth your time, then have a qualified mechanic inspect it before you pay.
